Scope and content
The series consists of records created by John Mar during his professional career as a mechanical engineer, mostly working for the federal government in Ottawa on the Canadian space program. The records include correspondence, technical reports, certificates, photographs and other material. Of particular note is Mar's laboratory research notebook illustrated with photographs, which details his work on the Alouette Satellite program.
The series also includes two 16 mm film reels: one is a film of the successful launch of the Canadian Defence Research Telecommunications Establishment's (DRTE) ionospheric antennae at NASA's flight facility at Wallops Island, Virginia. on June 15, 1961; the other is a film which depicts scenes from the laboratory preparation and the launch of Canadian Communication satellite Alouette I in 1962.
In addition there are three VHS video cassettes collected by Mar during his time working on the Norman Wells pipelines project and the Alouette satellites I and II.
