Biographical history

Jack Radford was born in Nanaimo in 1929. He attended high school in Ladysmith and moved to Vancouver with his family in 1948. He worked for Swift Meats for 20 years and accepted a position in the IWA, then went on to become a representative for the Canadian Labour Congress. This led him to an interest in politics. He ran in Vancouver South for the NDP in 1972, winning a seat and was appointed Minister of Conservation and Recreation. After he left politics he became a partner in the Vista Social Club in Victoria. He died in Victoria on May 19, 2003.

Scope and content

The fonds consists of Radford family records and includes clippings, letters, brochures and a microfilmed copy of a scrapbook relating to Jack Radford career as an NDP MLA and Minister of Recreation and Conservation between 1972 and 1975. The fonds also includes a file of clippings and photographs relating to Jack Radford's father, Dan Radford; and microfilmed copies of 2 diaries kept by Louisa and John Hill of Cedar, B.C. between 1887 and 1888.
