Biographical history

Effective May 15, 1902, the Government Agent at Ladysmith was appointed Registrar of the County Court (County of Nanaimo), held at Ladysmith. (Source: Order-in-Council #0210-1902 and BC Gazette, May 15 1902, p. 685). [This may have been the first establishment of the County Court at Ladysmith, but possibly was an appointment to a court that was established at an earlier date; to this date (March 2016) this fact has not been confirmed by BC Archives staff].

In 1924 the Office of the County Court Registry at Ladysmith was closed, effective March 11, 1924. At that time is was recommend that all books, documents, records, registrations and instruments on deposit or filed in the Ladysmith registry be transferred to the Office of the Registrar of the County Court at Nanaimo. (Sources: OIC 0299-1924, approved and ordered March 15, 1924 ; BC Gazette, March 20, 1924, p. 915).
