Biographical history

Established March 28, 1945 when the Forest Branch of the Dept. of Lands became the Forest Service of the Dept. of Lands and Forests. The Forest Service retained its name when the Dept. of Lands and Forests became the Dept. of Lands, Forests and Water Resources in March 1962. On Dec. 23, 1975 the Forest Service was transferred to the newly created Dept. of Forests. Ceased to exist April 1979.

Scope and content

Miscellaneous material relating to forest fires and forest protection. Consists of the fire-control equipment handbook (1946) and the radio handbook (1939) of the United States Forest Service. These manuals and the portable radio and fire-fighting gear were widely used by the B.C. Forest Service. Includes fire fighters' manuals (5 volumes, 1918-1942) prepared by the Western Forestry and Conservation Association and a catalog of portable fire fighting pumpers (1939).
