The bulk of the materials are from the period 1919-1952. Also includes records from the Field Service Division of the Social Welfare Branch, 1952 1954. Records with regard to child welfare This collection is comprised of the administrative records dealing with the province's involvement in the field of child welfare, beginning with the appointment in 1919 of a Superintendent of Neglected Children, later called the Superintendent of Child Welfare. It covers all aspects of child welfare work, including foster homes, delinquency, adoptions, illegitimacy, child welfare organizations, and professional approaches. The collection includes records from the Superintendent; Deputy Minister of Welfare; Assistant Director of Welfare; and general divisional materials. The bulk of the collection covers the period 1919 to 1952, although some files extend to 1963. The unit also includes records from the Field Service Division of the Social Welfare Branch, 1952-1954.
