Mr. Justice F. B. Gregory, of the Supreme Court was appointed August 3, 1916 to investigate claims to Crown Grants by settlers who occupied or improved lands located within the Esquimalt and Nanaimo Railway belt prior to December 19, 1883. In addition, he was to investigate the status of lands excluded from the grant as therefore not passing with the grant to the Dominion Government, or held as school reserves. It was established as "A Commission... to enquire into certain claims respecting lands situated within the Esquimalt and Nanaimo railway land belt, and the present status of all lands excepted out of the said belt." Also known as the Settlers' Rights Commission.

This series consists of the records of the Commission of Inquiry Into Certain Claims Respecting Lands Situated Within the Esquimalt and Nanaimo Railway Land Belt, 1916. This commission was also known as Settlers' Rights Commission. Commission records include correspondence, claims submitted by settlers to the Commission and other miscellaneous records. No report has been found.
