History
Kathleen Shackleton was an Irish portrait painter and journalist. She was born in Dublin on 5 February 1884 and attended Sydenham Girls High School in London. She immigrated to Canada in 1912 to be with her sister, Eleanor. In Montreal Shackleton worked as a journalist and illustrator for The Montreal Star. She briefly married in Canada then divorced. Her brother, Ernest Shackleton, became a renowned Antarctic explorer.
In Canada, Kathleen Shackleton traveled extensively to produce portraits of politicians and businessmen. She worked with the Canadian Pacific Railway, the Hudson Bay Company and the Price Brothers.
By 1950 Shackleton returned to the United Kingdom permanently. She and her sister, Gladys, ran an antique and souvenir shop in Chichester. She died on 10 July 1961.
