History

Reverend Edward Smith was born in Yorkshire, England, in 1879. He came to Canada in 1905 as a Methodist lay preacher. He graduated from Wesley Theological College in Winnipeg in 1912 and was ordained in Moose Jaw in the same year.

In 1913 he married Sevilla Smith, and for the next 30 years he led nine congregations in Saskatchewan. He retired in 1948 and moved to Richmond where he held Sunday school classes. These classes eventually developed into regular Sunday services which were eventually held in the Sea Island United Church, built in 1958 under Rev. Arthur Munday.

Smith died on June 28, 1969, in Richmond.
