Biographical history
The British Columbia government established a Supreme Court registry at Creston, effective October 1, 1951. It was approved by Order-in-Council 1908-1951 dated 1951 August 11. The same order established a County Court registry at Creston for the County of West Kootenay. The Government Sub-Agent at Creston was appointed (1) District Registrar of the Supreme Court, Creston Registry; (2) Registrar of the County Court for the County of West Kootenay, Creston Registry; and, (3) Clerk of the Peace for the County of West Kootenay. (Sources: Orders-in-Council and BC Gazette 1951, p. 2798)
During June and July 2002, Creston operated as a temporary circuit court of Cranbrook. As of 1 August 2002, Creston became a permanent circuit court of Cranbrook. The Cranbrook registry is the successor to the Creston registry.
