The item is a hand drawn and coloured map on linen showing Vancouver Island. It was created in 1894 for the "Province" Exploring Expedition, led by William Bolton. Lighthouses, Indian Reserves and stores are marked on it in colour coded dots.

The map was folded and inserted in a scrapbook G/V27/B63 (MS-2777 vol. 3). It was removed from the scrapbook in 1973 and sent to the Archives Map Division where it was catalogued as S 616.9 at P969m 1894. It was later accessioned as 07727D and recatalogued as CM/D130.
