TRACK 2: Bootlegging story (cont'd). Mr. Mesic discusses: prostitution in the area; rum running; discipline and attitudes of young people towards the neighbourhood; neighbourhood changes. Efforts to save Strathcona neighbourhood: SPOTA (Strathcona Property Owners' and Tenants' Association), SRC (Strathcona Rehabilitation Committee), NIP; dynamism of Shirley Chan; negotiating with municipal, provincial and federal governments. Changes brought about by rehabilitation of neighbourhood. Criticism. Postal union and shop steward in West Vancouver. (End of interview)
