Documentary. The building of a BC Rail 129 kilometre (80 mile) branch line to the coal mines of Tumbler Ridge for the Northeast Coal Project. Shows surveying; tunnel and bridge construction; laying of rails; manufacture of porcelain insulators; installation of electrical lines to power trains; design and construction of electric locomotives; loaded trains en route; Ridley Island Coal Terminal at Prince Rupert.

The series consists of North East Coal Development information books of slides created by the Ministry of Industry and Small Business Development between 1981 and 1984. Each book or subseries covers a particular mine or project and within each book there are files of slides relating to that mine arranged in file number order. The slides show various aspects of the North East Coal Development project and are accompanied by an information portfolio which contains lists of the slides and copies of map of the North East Coal Development area around Tumbler Ridge and Chetwynd plus newsclippings about new provincial parks in the area.

The series consists of a binder of catalogued slides created by the Ministry of Industry and Small Business Development between 1981 and 1984. The slides show various aspects of the North East Coal Development project and include images of the Quintette Coal Limited mine, the Bullmoose (Teck) Mine, Tumbler Ridge, BC Hydro work and the highway built between Chetwynd and Tumber Ridge. The slides are duplicates of those taken by the Special Services Branch and were catalogued with the numbering system used for Government image bank photographs. They range from 23-00001 to 23-00723.. The classification system consists of region or subject group number followed by the image number.

Progress of provincial infrastructure photo album

The series consists of a photo album created by the Ministry of Industry and Small Business Development in 1981. The album contains 29 colour prints and 1 map showing the progress of provincial infrastructure in support of the North East Coal Development project. The photographs are of various infrastructure projects and show clearing of land for hydro transmission lines, highways and the municipality of Tumber Ridge, construction of hydro substations and bridges and work on tunnels and rail lines.
