The item consists of three reels of promotional film.
Reel one: Captain Vancouver's monument, entrance to Vancouver harbour, the Lions, ship approaching, Siwash Rock, boathouse at harbour entrance, freighter passing, view of ships, piers and buildings. HMS "Hood" and HMS "Repulse" in the harbour. Pan over downtown section of Vancouver. Making hemp rope in factory. Woman making woolen products on loom. Huge herd of cattle on a flat prairie. Footage. A film showing tourism and commerce in three areas: the Cariboo region around 100 Mile House, Vancouver, and the upper Fraser Valley. Cariboo region subjects include fishing, motoring, horseback riding, boating, hiking, pioneer buildings, a covered wagon, and ranching. In Vancouver the focus is shipping. Upper Fraser Valley subjects include Chilliwack businesses and residences, agriculture, outdoor recreation, Hope area campgrounds, Fort Hope Lodge, hiking, boating, and horseback riding. Visitors cross the Fraser River in a canoe to see a waterfall.

Visit of His Majesty King George VI and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth to Vancouver and New Westminster -- May 1939

Special event coverage. "Good long [medium shot of] Royal Hudson Locomotive, 2850, from side. Good [close-up] front of 2850 with scarlet-jacketed, bearskinned guards on either side. Pipe band marching down street lined with people, followed by veterans with red arm bands. 'Inspection of Guard of Honour at Pier C and Procession up Burrard Street through the Welcome Arch.' The inspection is missing, but there are good shots from various angles of the royal car passing through the Welcome Arch. Royal couple en route to and arriving at City Hall, Vancouver, through crowds of people with flags, etc. King and Queen leave City Hall to tumultuous goodbye from crowds. Scenes in Vancouver Harbour as the King and Queen depart for Victoria aboard the CPR ferry 'Princess Marguerite'. The harbour is thronged with small boats waiting for them to pass. Three biplanes fly overhead, low over the Lion's Gate Bridge. The 'Princess Marguerite' sails out under the bridge. King and Queen drive through mobs of people in New Westminster. Veterans pipe band. Children dressed up in May Day costumes are waiting in Queen's Park. The royal couple arrive to a tumultuous welcome. A huge maypole display. Kids perform calisthenics. Crowds at Pattullo Bridge. Amateur film. Miscellaneous footage taken during the time that Miss Gerry worked as a nurse for the federal Dept. of Indian and Northern Affairs. Includes footage of Indian reserves and villages, celebrations and school children; a First Communion procession at St. Paul's Indian Catholic Church in North Vancouver; hospital and clinic scenes; residential schools and Coqualeetza Indian School and Hospital; Cariboo highway and scenery; Williams Lake Stampede; etc. Also includes OUR CARIBOO NEIGHBORS, a discrete two-reel film that depicts a 1941 automobile journey to visit Indian reserves and missions in the Cariboo. Vancouver diamond jubilee

The item is a composite print of a promotional film made in 1947. It shows the celebrations marking Vancouver's 60th anniversary to provide a framework for a short history and description of the city. Jubilee events include parades, a pageant at Timber Bowl in Stanley Park, First Nations dancing and the induction of the Governor-General (Viscount Alexander) as an honorary Kwakiutl chief. There are historical photographs which show Vancouver's early development.

Contemporary footage reveals various aspects of the city: skyline, public buildings and street scenes including Marine Building, harbour and shipyards, False Creek CPR yards and roundhouse, Lion's Gate and Burrard bridges, Vancouver airport, bus and streetcar systems, Police and Fire departments, Kitsilano Beach, Stanley Park, Bowen Island, boating, sailing, Sun Salmon Derby etc. It also includes footage of regional industries: logging, mining, smelting, fishing, farming, hydro-electric sites.

Vancouver around 1900

Port of Vancouver

SUMMARY: A word and sound picture of the Port of Vancouver as it is today. The program opens with a panoramic description of the Port of Vancouver from minesweeper HMCS Cordova as it steams through First Narrows. The program includes visits to Point Atkinson Lighthouse; the Department of Transport lookout tower on Lions Gate Bridge; HMCS Discovery, the naval reserve training base on Deadman's Island; shipyards; the yachts and fishing vessels moored in Coal Harbour; a coastal tanker; grain elevators; the Harbor Master's office; fire boats and police boats.

Natural gas is on the way

The item is release print of an industrial film made by Canadian Bechtel Ltd. between 1955 and 1957. It shows the
construction of Westcoast Transmission's natural gas pipeline from the Peace River gas fields to Huntington in the Lower Mainland. It includes views of the Peace River region, Fraser Valley, Fraser River and Thompson River, construction of pipeline river crossing in Coquihalla Canyon, land clearing, shipload of pipe arriving at Vancouver Harbour, views from PGE train carrying pipe north and procedure of welding and ditching pipe.

Includes views of Vancouver [and North Vancouver?] from the harbour; many scenes of herring fleet under way; shots of and on board various herring boats (including "Norcrown", "Irana", "Waldero" and "Western Cruiser"); the packer "Norcrest" unloading fish at a cannery on the North Shore; herring in nets and being brailed into hold; seagulls swarming.
