Biographical history

First appointed to administer the Infants Act in 1919 and the Mothers' Pensions Act in 1920, the Superintendent was responsible for a brief period to the Attorney-General. In 1923 the administration of the Infants Act was transferred to the jurisdiction of the Provincial Secretary. Mothers' Pensions Act was transferred to the Workmen's Compensation Board.

Transferred from Topaz Ave. Vault in 1975.

Scope and content

The series consists of records created by the British Columbia Superintendent of Neglected Children between 1922 and 1964. The records contain three volumes documenting changes of disposition of children in the care of the Children's Aid Society, Vancouver, B.C.
Vol. 1: Records of Roman Catholic children, 1922-1942;
Vol. 2: Records of Protestant children, 1922-1942;
Vol. 3: Cheque register, 1945-1964.
