CALL NUMBER: T4147:0006 RECORDED: [location unknown], 1984-03-26 SUMMARY: TRACK 1: First visit to Garibaldi Park in 1926 or 1927, as a boy of 13 or 14, at a Vancouver Natural History Society camp under the leadership of Professor John Davidson; introduction to the Alpine Club of Canada in the 1930s; involvement with the Varsity Outdoor Club in the 1940s as honourary president; encouraged club to visit Garibaldi Park area; wrote article along with club president on ski mountaineering in Garibaldi Park; involvement with Vancouver section of the Alpine Club of Canada in 1940s as club president; had Taylor cabin turned over for use by the Alpine Club of Canada. Vancouver Natural History Society camp in Black Tusk Meadows in 1941; last camp directed by Professor Davidson; story about cook wanting to leave camp; brief description of the Garibaldi Park Board packer Alec Munro as a packer; anecdote about flashlight dropped into the biffy; Dr. Davidson's botany games; hike out in rain; meeting members of university board at PGE; first official ascent of Pyramid Peak; by Vancouver section of the Alpine Club in the 1940s; involvement with Garibaldi Playground Association in the 1940s and early 1950s as chairman of the association; association brought about establishment of a comprehensive park system for the province.
