South Saanich School District was established in 1872 as a common school district when the former Saanich School District, established in 1869, was divided into North Saanich and South Saanich. The district was renamed in 1880 as East-South Saanich and again in 1884 as South Saanich School District. In 1906, South Saanich District was disestablished when it was included in Saanich School District, a rural municipality school district.

Visitors' Book, 1876-1884. This volume contains testimonials from trustees and local residents concerning the school teachers, along with class-room evaluations by visitors and school inspectors. Also includes penciled notes re: pupils' attendance and activities. This unit may be used in conjunction with GR-2062 (Register of Pupils, 1878-1897). The school was established in 1872 under the name South Saanich School. It was redefined and styled East-South Saanich School in 1880. The school district boundaries were defined again in 1884, at which time the name of the school reverted to "South Saanich".
