Alison Jean Logan was born in London England on January 31, 1949, the daughter of Sir Douglas William Logan, Principal, University of London and Lady Christine Peggy Logan. Alison was educated in London and received a B.A. from the University of Hull (Yorkshire) in 1970. After working as a secretary in the UK, she moved to Canada in 1971 and began working for the University of British Columbia in a variety of roles including secretary, residence advisor and convention manager. In 1974 she was the administrative assistant to the Chairman of the Universities Council of BC. In 1977 she took a position with Simon Fraser University in Burnaby and held a number of roles there including Director, Academic Relations from 1983 to 1988. In 1988 she moved to Ottawa with her husband and children for two years and was the Manager of Administration, Ottawa-Carleton Immigrant Services Organization. In 1990 she returned to British Columbia and Simon Fraser University where she was Director, Academic Planning. In 1996 she became Director, Senate Secretariat and from 2000 to 2009 she was the Director, University Secretariat. Alison Logan married Robert Watt in London, England on September 28, 1973. She received the SFU Staff Achievement Award - Humanitarian in 2006 and the SFU Chancellor's Distinguished Service Award in 2009.
