Public affairs. The final episode of Jack Webster's popular weekday morning talk show. Guests and topics for this episode are: Jack hosts a “best of” show in honour of his retirement from television. Over the course of the show, tributes from Lloyd Robertson, Ed Broadbent, Harvey Oberfeld, Jim Pattison, Harry Rankin, John Fraser, Speaker of the House, Michael J. Fox, Pat Carney, John and Jill Turner, Pamela Wallin, Svend Robinson, Marjorie Nichols, Prime Minister Brian Mulroney, Nova Eng, Allan Fotheringham, Jean Chretien, Ray Perrault, Nathan Divinsky, Iona Campagnolo, Rick Hansen calls from his Man in Motion Tour. Jack shows a film clip from his first show in October, 1979 and other early programmes, including Judy LaMarsh, David Duke, Shirley MacLaine, Iona Campagnolo. Also, a clip from his walkabout show at the Revelstoke dam; Bill Vander Zalm is put on the spot as Minister of Education; labour unrest in the Province. Mike Harcourt, former Vancouver mayor and current leader of the NDP, surprises Jack in the studio with a tartan sports coat and golf balls for his retirement. Vancouver Mayor Gordon Campbell surprises Jack with a proclamation that May 1, 1987, be known as “Jack Webster Day”; a film clip with Pierre Trudeau regarding retirement. Jack Munro and “Wee Davey” Barrett arrive with an enormous cake. On tape, k.d. Lang and the Reclines invite Jack on tour. Shirley MacLaine calls from Denver to flirt with Jack. Steve Wyatt telephones with best wishes, then Susie Boyce calls. Anne Murray also offers employment to Mr. Webster. Premier Bill Vander Zalm presents Jack with a ceremonial shovel.
