In 1986, it was renamed the Ministry of Labour and Consumer Services (OIC 1903/86) when the functions relating to consumer affairs were transferred from the disestablished Ministry of Consumer and Corporate Affairs. At the same time, functions relating to industrial safety were transferred from the Ministry of Labour to the renamed Ministry of Municipal Affairs (OIC 1904/86) and programs relating to labour market, assisted job access, and job training were transferred to the renamed Ministry of Continuing Education and Job Training (OIC 1897/86). Women’s and youth programs were transferred to the Ministry of Provincial Secretary and Government Services (OIC 1906/86).
