Scope and content

The series consists of photographs relating to George F. Lowe's construction work on the B.C. coast from 1935 to 1951, and also the leisure activities of the Lowe family on Vancouver Island and other B.C. coast locations. His daughter, Margaret Lowe (Peggy), was part of these leisure activities; she may have played a role in creating the family photographs.

Subjects include: the Estevan Point wireless office, Hesquiat village and the road to Hesquiat, dead whales, Pachena Point, Clo-oose, Alert Bay and the Indian residential school at Alert Bay. Photographs attributed to “Royal Canadian Air Force Photographs” depict: Queen Charlotte Islands (Haida Gwaii) locations including Skidegate Mission, the plank highway at Tlell River. Other photographs depict the St. Roch refit (1938), Sidney Island (1941), Digby Island (1947), Bull Harbour and Prince Rupert. Jack Wrathall is identified as a photographer.
